If you travel north from Kuta you may find Seminyak which is a more refined area of Kuta. There are no groups of young people lurking around drinking and making a bother of themselves. That said staying in one of the Seminyak hotels is not dull, there is plenty of entertainment on offer, but is more refined and intimate. Accommodation is commonly middle to top end and although it is a lot more costly that the bargain hotels of South Kuta, the rates are highly reasonable for the service and quality that you receive as a visitor.

Watch out for the monkeys, they’re all over Bali and will snatch anything that’s hanging lose and simple to snatch including your glasses. If they do happen to snatch something make sure that they aren’t sitting next to a cliff and throw down some food. The monkeys will drop your item and go after the food. Even though most tourists are warned far too many don’t listen and finish up losing things, sometimes even expensive jewelry.
