When you go to Peru most people’s first thoughts aren’t of trekking up the side of a mountain but this is exactly what adventurous travellers on active holidays do every year. As far as walking holidays the trail leading upto Machu Picchu is one of the most exciting treks you can do on this planet. If you love to walk or trek then the Inca Trail with Machu Picchu being the sight that greets you at the end is quite simply found nowhere else. With a road that is 500 year old you really don’t get a more historic or mysterious atmosphere when walking the Inca Trail anywhere else on the globe.

The temple that was Machu Picchu was built as a fortress as well as a place of worship. 4,000 feet up on a mountain side to build a temple is quite a tough thing to do so you can only imagine how difficult this was back in the time of the Mayan reign.

It is a 40 mile walk that never goes below 8,500 feet and for huge sections of the walk you will find yourself at 11,000 feet or above so do not be fooled into thinking this will be easy. Be warned that if you think you might suffer from altitude sickness then this walk is probably not a good idea because there is no medical help to be had. This has got to be one of the most ideal ways to experience a country with so much beauty as Peru.

As mentioned before take care of yourself and if you start to feel dizzy sit down as there is no one medically trained to help you on the trail. Make sure you arrange a guide before you climb the mountain beacuse it is now compulsory otherwise you will find yourself sitting around without being allowed on the mountainside.

Peru holidays are something really different and if you don’t feel a multi day trek is within you capabilities then you can always take the train from Cusco.

Can the holiday of your dreams turn into a nightmare?

It is argued that holidays abroad can be very good for your general health, but the main problem is the heat. Although this is not really thought about by the general public, the sun can cause a lot of problems. However how bad can this really be?

If you live in the Caribbean you will find that you can deal with the heat a lot better than others from colder countries. If you don’t head to these hot destination much, they will have a bigger impact on you. The time it takes to burn the skin without sun lotion is minimal in hot countries. This is an area that needs to be focused on, the sun can cause a lot of damage to the skin, but only in extreme doses.

The best way to look after your skin in the sun, and probably the easiest, is to just apply some sun screen. This simply moisturises into the skin but provides block from the damaging rays of the sun. What we need to determine, is how serious are these problems? Sometimes the extreme heat can cause you to feel nausea or can cause some people to pass out. The problem is this can manifest itself as sun stroke. Amy Winehouse seems to be the latest victim of Sun Stroke, claiming that Michael Jackson spoke to her in her dreams and told her to stop taking drugs.

The best way to combat sun stroke are to get under the shade every now and then to cover yourself. People often have the misconception that swimming can prevent sun stroke and sun burn. However this is not the point, although it can help with sun stroke, if you don’t have any sun lotion on, then it can actually be much worse than normal.

Although the sun does have the ability to be a bad thing, if you’re careful Caribbean holidays and Diving holidays can be enjoyable.
