Malllorca´s Main Resorts

December 15, 2009 · Filed Under Holidays · Comment

The beautiful Balearic Island of Mallorca has been welcoming holidaymakers since the 1960´s.  Boasting a fantastic Mediterranean climate, excellent golden sand beaches and splendid pine clad scenery.  Ingredients which combine to make it one of the most popular destinations in Europe – welcoming over 6 million visitors a year.

Indeed over the centuries the island has played host to plenty of VIP visitors.  And no we’re not talking about more modern day stars such as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones.  As the island was once the haunt of artistic eminents such as Robert Graves, Frederic Chopin and Joan Miro amongst others.  And is still a sanctuary for creative types today.

In some ways Mallorca – or Majorca depending upon your pronunciation – is much like a football match.  That is to say is it split into two halves.  With the south home to package holiday destinations such as Magaluf.  Once synomous with full English breakfasts and lager louts.  Whilst the north has a more upmarket air – attracting well heeled tourists and boasting the best selection of character properties and traditional stone built holiday villas in Mallorca.

As a result it is important for visitors to select their holiday destination on the largest of the four Balaeric Islands carefully.  In order to avoid finding themselves in the wrong resort.  And with over twenty to choose from and some popular with specific nationalities it pays to research this carefully.

Alcudia in the north of the island is home to what is arguably Mallorca´s most impressive beach.  With this former fishing village boasting a nine mile long stretch of sand that makes it hugely popular with holidaymakers.  As well as an atmospheric marina that offers plenty of good quality bars and restaurants to choose from.

Along the coast lies Puerto Pollensa – the sister resort to the former Roman settlement of Pollensa.  Which is located around 8km inland and which is a real treasure trove of historic buildings and atmospheric squares.  Pollensa is set against the dramatic backdrop of the pine clad Tramantura Mountains and is a much quieter option than Alucudia.

Party animals should concentrate on the south and the mega resort of Magaluf.  Whilst anyone who wants to combine sun-bathing with sightseeing should head for the capital of Palma.  Home to a historic cathedral and a host of great museums.

Getting to Mallorca is easy.   Flights to the island are available from all of the main budget and holiday airlines in the UK and the journey time is a bearable two and a half hours.

Nobody books Christmas holidays after October!

December 5, 2009 · Filed Under Travel · Comment

So does it look as though Christmas holidays are dropping in bookings? It would appear that people have stopped booking these Christmas holidays. Christmas time for the holiday’s district, sales reach a peak in September and October, then fall dramatically in November.

Now why is it that these holiday bookings have dropped so much in recent weeks? If you want to try and get the Christmas holiday that you want, you should try and book in advance. Booking a Christmas holiday should take place a good few months before the 25th of December. Many don’t want to book holidays close to Christmas because it can be very stressful even just around Christmas time. These holidays are very stressful, adding this to the Christmas period can be even more so, not to mention aggravating.

If you do want to get these holidays, then the best way to achieve a booking and get a good price, is to look for them around September. Not only are these holidays difficult for someone to find, but they are very popular and get booked fast. Cuba holidays or Egypt holidays are very difficult to arrange towards Christmas time. These holidays are packed throughout the year, so when it comes to booking at Christmas it is quite difficult.

Barbados and St Lucia have also been popular this year, people have been trying to book holidays to these places in September, only to find they are all booked up. Not many tour operators still have holidays to exotic locations, so make sure that you get looking as soon as possible to get those last remaining holidays. Some of the tour operators around, have cancelled holidays through the Christmas time because they haven’t got any more flights available.

Hopefully you have your Christmas holidays already booked, otherwise it could be very difficult to get one now, especially seeing as we are getting so close to the recession, and not to mention the deals were so good.

Where to go this Christmas? Here are the top 3 locations!

December 5, 2009 · Filed Under Travel · Comment

Looking for the top places to go on holiday for your Christmas this year? You want to know what are the best locations, and here we have them. SO here are the top 3 places in the world that you could go to for your Christmas holiday this year:

Barbados. This is for the family, the Discovery Bay by Rex Resorts, a great Christmas holiday. This may be a luxury holiday, but when you consider the price (which is very low) it feels much more in reach. The beaches are very clear and the accommodation is very nice. This resort is very close to Bridgetown, a fantastic place to celebrate Christmas coming in, and especially to celebrate the New Year. If you like a good night life and a busy day, then Barbados is great for this.

St Lucia. The Body Holiday at Le Sport offers anyone who stays here the most luxurious accommodation. Every room in the hotel has air conditioning so you can be kept cool all day, and non stop room service. What a great place, although you may find yourself spending the whole holiday in your suite with room service on speed dial. If your a golfing person then this a great holiday location for you, although saying that, there are other activities as well from, fencing to archery. All of these activities come with training as well. Castries is the capital of St Lucia and is only a 5 minute drive away from the hotel, so great for shopping.

The Maldives. Welcome to by far the priciest of all the locations the “Lily Beach Resort and Spa”. This is the most luxurious of all our locations as well, rated at a 5 and a half to 6 star qualities. If you want somewhere to stay where you can get away from people and spend a week or two in the middle of nowhere, then this is as close to heaven that you are going to get. This particular Maldives island is quite small but has a small tropical rain forest at its centre, the Hotel is actually situated above the sea itself. A truly amazing hotel.

Maldives holidays, Dubai holidays and Sri Lanka holidays are well on the rise and this is thanks to the holidays on offer.

Christmas holidays, they are booked much more in advance than your normal holiday!

October 22, 2009 · Filed Under Travel · Comment

If you were to be able to delve into the bookings of Christmas holidays abroad, you will see that the Christmas holiday on the whole, is booked further in advance than the normal holiday in the year. The great thing about Summer holidays, is that last minute bookings can be quite fun.

This however is not all that successful with Christmas holidays. You can’t just decide a few days before Christmas that you want to go on holiday, these things need to be planned! Going abroad requires some planning anyway, but taking the family means that you have to take every-one’s needs into account. You won’t be able to take all the presents with you, and what about the house and the rest of the family?

These issues are the main reasons why booking a holiday last minute for Christmas won’t work. Summer holidays are easy to book early or last minute. Just make sure that everything is turned off and all the doors are locked, then off you go. The price of luxury holidays has plummeted, so booking the holidays before hand had now become a viable option.

You would be very lucky to find a holiday available around Christmas time. Booking a last minute holiday around Christmas could be very difficult, in fact a lot of places will be sold out already, although some are definitely trying to gain some extra flights and seats for families to purchase some holidays. Winter holidays will require early bookings, mainly because it is one of the busiest times of the years and flights get jam packed very quickly!

Luxury holidays and Winter holidays are the best way to spend your Christmas?

Plymouth Weekend City Breaks and Tourist Attractions to Visit

October 20, 2009 · Filed Under Travel · Comment

Vacations in England seem to be amazingly popular at the moment, most likely due to the present depression and the low value of the pound Sterling. The UK has a large number of top class tourist destinations including London (the capital city of England) and other interesting cities plus a fine collection of seaside resorts such as; Blackpool, Bournemouth, Bognor Regis and Brighton. One place often overlooked is Plymouth in the south of England.

First appearances are that Plymouth appears a little plain and principally modern, but investigating a little deeper and you will quickly find that the city of Plymouth has a rich history and a long association with the sea. As far back as the 16th century the town has had a busy port. In fifteen eighty eight Sir Francis Drake set sail from the town’s port to successfully defend the English by defeating the Spanish Armada. Another moment in history occurred in 1620 when the Pilgrim Fathers embarked from the port.

It is possible to enjoy inexpensive Plymouth weekend city breaks by making a reservation in bed and breakfast in Plymouth rather than booking a expensive hotel. A quick search on Google will show that you can book a room for as little as £29 a night and some places offer dinners at a very reasonable rate, often equivalent to, or less costly than local restaurants.

Places To Visit In Plymouth

There are a great many interesting places in the town which are worth a visit. Popular visitor attractions include; the old quay at Sutton Harbour, the National Marine Aquarium, Merchant’s House Museum and the Barbican district. A trip on a boat around the naval base is an excellent way to spend some time and if you have more time why not take a day out to other places near to Plymouth, for example; Buckland Abbey, Mount Edgcumbe or Saltram House.

Saltram House is a pretty Tudor Mansion which is found 2 miles east of Plymouth, Mount Edgcumbe is another superb Tudor house with parklands, coastal paths and landscaped gardens, and Buckland Abbey, roughly 6 miles away from Plymouth, is a Cistercian abbey which was at one time by Francis Drake and was at a later date converted into a family home.

If you are in the process of deciding upon spending a few weeks in the city of  Plymouth it is crucial that you book your  rooms at the earliest moment because, sadly hotel and guest house accommodation in Plymouth tend to be alarmingly busy and are commonly fully booked for a long period in advance. If you are travelling in a large group you might find that apartment accommodation in Plymouth are a cheaper option to Plymouth bed and breakfast. If you are visiting Great Britain from abroad then you should consider making a reservation for a room in hotels in London to take in the attractions of the capital city of England too.

The Tsar’s Sanctuary in the Medieval Capital of Bulgaria – Veliko Turnovo

October 11, 2009 · Filed Under Travel · Comment

The name of Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria is directly connected with the Medieval Hill Tsarevets. And with reason – Veliko Turnovo had prospered for more than 200 years and was compared with Constantinople, called The Second Constantinople. Its fortified fortress walls cover three hills. They seem to be an extension of the rock string, separated by the meander of the Yantra River. The Tsarevets Hill is the most gorgeous one. The main fortress is there. The two main institutions of that time were situated there – The Tsar’s castle and the Patriarchate. The fortress wall is 2km long and 2.6m wide. It distinguished with the many covered towers. Three entrances were available in the fortress. The main entrance is situated on a narrow rock isthmus with three consecutively situated gates, guarded by towers. The rock isthmus at the first gate is cut (4.50m width) and connected with a draw-bridge, which was up at night or when the fortress was in danger and was down during the day and in peaceful times. The other two gates, situated on several meters one from each other, also obstructed the aggresors’ way. The patriarch complex, the “St. Ascension Day” church, the bell tower and the patriarch’s residence (surrounded by a separate fortress wall) are situated on top of the hill. The Tsars’ castle is situated on the most comfortable place, on smooth terrain – a real citadel (inner fortress), which covers 5 decares of land. The thick fortress wall with the five towers could hold off a siege for long time, after the outer fortress wall was destroyed. {The limited area of Tsarevets made it impossible for all the noble people to live in there}. Thus, it is supposed that the closest relatives of the tsar and his husband settled in the rest of the area along with the rest of the noble population, called Bolyari. There were about 110 families, according to Constantine Kostenechki. A part of them settled down on the hill of Trapezitsa, which formed as a aristocratic quarter, surrounded by a strong fortress wall with five towers and three gates and numerous churches, a part of which were family ones.
The city formed as a center of political, spiritual, economical and cultural life. The name of the capital of Bulgaria was spoken with respect in whole Europe. It became a center of development of the Slav writing and culture. There were the Evtimieva literary school, the vocal school of Joan Kukuzel, The Painting and Architectural school of Turnovo. The most famous literature pieces of art that have reached to nowadays were written by the men of letters Patriarch Evtimii, Grigorius Tsamblak, and Kiprian.

If this article has intrigued you, you can always find accommodation in Bulgaria – in Veliko Turnovo or in the nearby resort villages, such as Arbanassi. You will enjoy the combination of history, nature and modern entertainment.

The old capital city of Bulgaria is Veliko Turnovo. It is famous with its numerous historical sites. Especially impressive is its geographical location. It is situated in the lower parts of the Balkans, on top of many hills, which are surrounded by the Yantra River. The houses are in amphitheatrically ordered in the old town as well as in the new town. The view from the bottom of a hill is gorgeous – the houses look like they are on top of each other.

Thousands of tourists visit this interesting city. Its geographical location is not the main factor that makes the city so interesting, but its cultural heritage. Tourists visit mostly the three historical hills – Tsarevets, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora, without knowing, that numerous cave formations are hiding in the surroundings of the city – caves and holes with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. The best Vegas holiday!

September 23, 2009 · Filed Under Travel · Comment

It was time for me to leave dreary England and head over to America, more precisely to Las Vegas. Just working all the time really wasn’t doing it for me, i needed to get out there and do something. I was determined to go to America, i wanted to head out on a long holiday. Somebody mentioned to me that Las Vegas was the place to be for an exciting holiday.

So that was it I was on my way for Las Vegas Holidays. I landed in McCarran Airport, and was picked up in a car and taken to the Bellagio Hotel. What a great place. This place was stunning, a true palace of beauty. Walking into the Bellagio is like walking into a palace. The room that i was given, well it was spectacular.

So now, to the gaming floor. Then it was for some gambling, a bit of pontoon, or the roulette wouldn’t go a miss. It was great fun, but to be fair I didn’t really win much, in fact I think I lost a fair bit. I then decided to visit Vegas, I went to several of the casinos to see what they were like, including; the Luxor, the Mirage and the Circus Circus.

After I had done my visiting of the sites, my vacation was coming to and end. I had seen all that i wanted to see on holiday, i therefore decided to go back into the gaming room, and try the new slot machines. I had begun to spend a little too much, somewhere in the region of 140 dollars, then all of a sudden, there was a flashing light and a siren, i was all of a sudden surrounded by people. At first I didn’t know what had happened, until I noticed the Giant “Jackpot” flashing sign. I won’t say how much I won, but it was a fair amount. One of the best holidays ever.

I have also recommended to my two sons to have Las Vegas weddings, should be good fun for all of them.

The Internet has stolen the gambling industry from Vegas!

September 19, 2009 · Filed Under Travel · Comment

Gambling has been in the human civilization since as far back as the Ancient Egyptians. If the business is turning over 100 billion pounds, it is going to have a lot of competition. Basically this shows that if everyone in the world had access to the Internet they would have to bet at least 15 pounds each year.

The majority of this is thanks to the internet. The internet is used by millions of people across the world, and millions of people take part in gambling online. The chance to just sit in the peacefulness of your own home and have fun enjoying a casino like gambling table at the press of your finger tips is massive fun and easily to obtain. However, is it possible that this ease of fun is having an effect on us and the gambling capital, Vegas? Are people going to stop going abroad to gamble because they can enjoy it at home?

Vegas holidays have always been popular; the gambling scene is massive with a whole range of 5 star hotels to stay in at very low costs. The flights are very expensive, but once you get there you wont regret it. Actually sitting at these tables is good fun, you feel really deep set in the game, you will also be more conservative with your money. However i have never really had that much faith in gambling online. There is no reality about it, how can you tell if you are being cheated or not? Although gambling is unpredictable, I believe that on internet sites, if you go through a losing streak you may be tempted to think the site is cheating you making you a little paranoid.

So Las Vegas holidays are although expensive, very fun, they provide you with hands on experience and a great holiday, not to mention possible Vegas weddings, plus you can’t get married over the internet…….. Yet!

Other areas that have benefitted from gambling are Florida holidays, Orlando being quite a popular place.
