Learn How To Add United States Passport Pages to Your US Passport

February 11, 2010 · Filed Under Travel

There are two instances where you can request additional US passport pages. The first one is if you only have two to four pages left in your passport. The other is when you travel regularly and thus need more passport pages than normal. If you fall under either of these situations, then it’s natural that you’ll want to find out how to add passport pages to your US passport. We’ll talk about it in detail in the succeeding paragraphs.

Let’s discuss the first category first. If you are a passport holder, and your passport has less than two to four pages in it, you’ll need to request additional passport pages. But why request pages so soon? That’s because it will save you a lot of time when you do that now, rather than when you are already about to travel.

To request for additional pages, your passport must first of all be valid. If it is still valid, fill in Form DS-4085. Then you will have to mail your completed DS-4085 along with your current passport to the address specified in the form.

When applying for extra United States passport pages, you are not required to pay anything to have it processed. However, you will have to pay an additional fee should you decide to have your application expedited. When getting an expedited passport, make sure you write ‘EXPEDITED’ on the envelope before mailing it. Having it expedited cuts your waiting time from four to six weeks to just two to three weeks.

Now, on to the next situation. If you travel frequently, then chances are you quickly fill up your passport book faster than most people. In this instance, you need to apply for a new passport book once the passport pages run out. This will require a different procedure altogether.

To request new passport pages, you need to send a signed letter requesting one. Along with this letter should be the completed DS-82 form. Filling in this form will allow you to send your passport application by mail. But in instances where are you ineligible to apply by mail, you’ll need to complete the DS-11 form. When using the DS-11, you will submit this form in person, along with your letter to the passport office.

When submitting your form by mail, make sure that you choose a traceable method of delivery. This ensures that your documents are received by the intended recipient. Also place your documents in an envelope that isn’t easily damaged, to ensure that it is in good condition once it arrives at the passport office for processing.

All in all, it’s easy to put in a request for extra U.S. passport pages. First, you need to know what your passport requirements are in that you only have two to four remaining passport pages, or you are a frequent traveler. Your situation will then determine the type of procedure you need to go through. Knowing how to add passport pages can’t get easier than that.
