You’ve chosen your destination and may have even booked some bargain flights online, looking forward to your holiday, lying in the sun, sipping Sangria and soaking up the rays. But are you a senior traveler planning your holidays and have you arranged your senior travel insurance?

If you are over 64 and looking for travel insurance cover you could run into some problems. Many insurance companies suddenly become reluctant to offer travel insurance to senior travelers for a number of reasons. They obviously don’t want to take unnecessary risks. They are in the business of making money and would like nothing more than to never pay out for insurance claims. But older, senior traveler represent an additional risk for insurers due to their age, maybe they have failing health or already have some pre-existing medical conditions.

So what are the options open to the senior traveler? The first thing to do is not to leave it too late. Start to look around for your travel insurance cover as soon as possible. The longer you leave it the harder it will be to find the policy that you need.

Its always a good idea to start with your current insurance provider. If you already have some life insurance or health insurance it is worthwhile contacting your existing insurance provider and enquiring as to whether they can provide senior travel insurance. And if you have a pre-existing medical condition find out if they provide pre-existing medical condition travel insurance.

It is always prudent to shop around. Even if you are provided with quotes from your current insurance provider take the figures and look around for a cheaper alternative. There are some specialist senior insurance providers who are likely to be able to beat the prices that have been quoted from other insurers.

You may like to consider multi-trip travel insurance, once you have found a policy and provider that you are happy with. Save yourself the hassle of having to shop around and find an insurance provider the next time you want to take a vacation, take out a multi-trip policy and save yourself the aggravation.

Whatever you do, always be honest and open with your prospective travel insurance provider. Its never a good idea to lie about your age and its important to provide complete details of your health status and any pre-existing medical conditions that you might have. And makre sure you have a great holiday.
